JANESVILLE — A Janesville teen is in custody following a shooting Friday morning in Janesville that temporarily sent nearby childcare facilities into lockdown.

According to a news release, Janesville Police Department officers responded about 10:30 a.m. to the area of the 100 block of W Holmes St for a person who had been shot. The caller reported a female was just shot by an unknown suspect and fled on foot wearing a mask. Several officers responded to the area and instructed nearby daycare centers to lock down for safety while searching for the alleged suspect.
 
During the investigation, officers learned the reporting person was the shooting suspect, a 17-year-old Janesville resident.

The suspect is in custody and is currently being held at the Rock County Jail. The shooting victim was a juvenile who was treated at a local hospital and released.
