UPDATE: Police say the suspect was found dead inside the home and no shots were fired by officers.

JANESVILLE — Janesville police say a suspect fired at officers early Tuesday during an hours-long standoff.

Police were still actively investigating the incident on North Washington St. as of their last update at 12:15 p.m.

North Washington Street will remain closed with a police presence, but West Court St near the Five Points intersection will be opened for passing traffic.

The incident began early this morning when officers were investigating a domestic violence incident. 

The officers were talking to the suspect when he fired several shots at officers. 

The officers were not physically injured by gunfire, according to JPD news release.

The Janesville Police Department SWAT Team has been on-scene since about 4 a.m. trying to get the suspect to surrender.
