JANESVILLE — Downtown Janesville’s business improvement district will begin working with downtown property owners on the installation of new cameras that allow access to police based on reports and tips through a smartphone app.

Over the next two months, Downtown Janesville will begin implementing the special project called Lights, Camera, Action!

As part of the initiative, Downtown Janesville also will be working on the installation of better lighting and helpful signage to promote positive activity downtown.

According to a Facebook post published Thursday, people will be able to submit secure and anonymous tips through the P3 Tips app to be managed by the Janesville Police Department and Janesville Area Crime Stoppers.

Police would be able to access the network of outside cameras as needed based on reports submitted through the P3 Tips.
