JANESVILLE — Sgt. Dean Sukus retired Tuesday from the Janesville Police Department after 29 years of service to Janesville.  

“The Police Department would like to thank Sergeant Dean Sukus for 29 years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Police Department, and the City of Janesville,” read a news release from the city announcing the retirement.  

Sukus joined the department as a patrol officer on Jan. 24, 1994.

Throughout his time with the department, he held many positions and assignments, including first, second and third shift Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, SFST Instructor, first, second and third shift Patrol Sergeant, Honor Guard, Mobile Field Force, K-9 Program Supervisor, Taser Program Lead Supervisor, and he was a member of the Safety Committee, according to the news release.

Sukus received a Letter of Commendation in 1995 and a Chief’s commendation in 2020. He also received the Award of Excellence in 2017 and 2021.
